We always enjoy seeing how classic kitchen design can be interpreted in a way that feels both timeless and personal. This recent project in a Grade II Listed apartment is a beautiful example of that balance, using Hunton shaker cabinets in Regiment Green to create a kitchen that feels entirely at home within a period home.

Designed and installed by Parker Kitchens, the homeowners wanted a space that worked better for modern life, with improved storage, a more natural flow, and a finish that respected the character of the building. The finished kitchen feels calm, elegant and well thought through, showing how the right cabinetry can bring together period character and modern living.

Designing around the home’s original features

Working within a listed property calls for a more considered design approach. Homes of this kind often come with features that give them real character, but they can also present practical challenges that need careful planning, such as uneven walls, unlevel floors, and an awkward layout.

That is where thoughtful kitchen design and the right cabinetry choice become so important. Rather than forcing a standard solution into the room, Parker Kitchens designed around the apartment’s natural lines and original features.

Hunton shaker cabinetry

For a home like this, cabinetry style was always going to be key. The kitchen needed a design that would sit comfortably within the apartment’s traditional setting, which is what made Hunton such a strong fit.

With its narrow shaker frame and smooth painted finish, Hunton offers a fresh interpretation of a classic design. The proportions give it a refined, contemporary edge, making it particularly well suited to a period apartment that still needed to support modern living.

The colour choice was equally important. Regiment Green brings richness and depth to the room, giving the cabinetry presence without overwhelming the space. It feels confident, but not overpowering. In a home with original features and generous ceiling heights, this deeper tone adds character and helps ground the design beautifully.

A banquette bench that brings the room together

One of the standout features of the kitchen renovation is the built-in banquette seating in the dining area. What had once been an awkward corner was transformed into a purposeful and attractive part of the room, adding both seating and hidden storage.

Using the same Hunton cabinetry as the rest of the kitchen, it helped tie the two areas together visually, giving the apartment a more cohesive feel. It also helps draw the kitchen and dining spaces together, making the home feel more connected as a whole.

What makes this project so successful is the way every part of it feels rooted in the property itself. The cabinetry style, colour palette, layout choices and supporting details all work together to create a space that feels natural within the apartment.

At Second Nature, we are proud to see our kitchens used in ways that reflect the character of both the home and the people living in it. This apartment is a wonderful example of how thoughtful design, expert installation and carefully chosen cabinetry can come together to create a space that is both practical and beautifully in keeping with its surroundings.
