The client’s brief was quite specific - maximum storage was crucial as the kitchen forms part of a family room, which required additional hideaway space for toys for 2 young children. The look was equally essential with soft curved cabinetry softening the look and practically helping to protect those hips and small heads. Finally the all-important island which not only helps with storage and prep area but adds that special wow-factor too.
Often the designer has to work around fixed structures, which if not handled sympathetically, could compromise the finished design and look. In this kitchen a major design and fitting challenge was a large steel girder that interfered with the cabinets around the fridge and the tall units near the ovens. A clever and effective design solution was achieved ensuring the steel only affected one cabinet, enabled the fridge to open fully and the larder positioned next to the oven.
