This kitchen is set in a family home and the clients wanted to create a more sociable living space, as their previous kitchen was tiny. Having extended their property they were able to achieve the open-plan scheme they desired, opting for handleless Remo matt furniture to create a softer aesthetic than a gloss finish. The island is multifunctional, being a great working area but also, with the casual breakfast bar, is an informal area to grab a coffee or chat to the cook.
The designer recommended a contrasting grey oak cabinet to give contrasting wood grain end panels and plinths which ensure the kitchen area did not appear to clinical. The wood effect was carried on through the open shelving, which not only adds interest to the design but also creates a display area for more personal items. The new kitchen area includes space for a large table and chairs so is now exactly the place the clients wanted, a truly sociable room that’s the hub of their family home.
