The kitchen formed part of an overall rearrangement of the ground-floor space, removing walls to create an open-plan kitchen, dining room and snug area with bi folding doors overlooking the garden. The client wanted a sleek, modern kitchen with a feature island to include storage, hob, wine cooler and seating for four. The cabinetry mix, of Porter White, creates a strong visual statement with the zebrano finish injecting warmth to the contemporary scheme. The glass splashback on the back wall, in a metallic white-textured finish, is not only beautiful but also hugely practical being easy to clean and care for. The pelmet Led lighting really emphasis this feature at night. The boiling water tap was chosen to avoid having a kettle cluttering up the clean lines!
Open-plan kitchens are such versatile spaces and are very popular with the family market, but they can create design challenges as there is less overall wall space to work with therefore careful consideration has to be made where the key functions are positioned. Wherever possible we zone the important features together, as in this design, with the hob near the oven and storage next to refrigeration, to ensure an aesthetically and ergonomic working space. In this kitchen there are two integrated fridge freezers in one corner, and then a combination microwave and Slide and Hide Oven to the far right of the sink keeping all the tall units tucked away in the corners.
