The idea behind this design was to create an openplan kitchen that linked seamlessly to both the dining and living spaces. A multi-functional island is the main focal point, doubling up as a working zone and place to sit, chat and eat. The concept ensures that symmetry was applied to the kitchen design with every aspect of the layout being evenly balanced from the hob to the sink and the American fridge freezer.
Lighting can play a very important role to get the ambience of a living kitchen just right. In this design the island is located below a roof window for the natural lighting to flood through, with strategically positioned recessed spotlights around it. Plinth and over-unit illumination make sure that in the evening the mood lighting becomes apparent and is condusive for when the family watch TV or relax.
