The Brief

The clients were keen to update their very dark and dated cathedral arch wooden kitchen.  They opted for a lighter oak as they like the solid and warm, natural feel this creates in the room.  As they were on a budget they compromised on a laminate worktop, however as this is dark granite effect and features a square edge it looks very much like the real thing.  This is a cook’s kitchen with a large 5-ring gas range cooker

Designer's Tips

The home has the luxury of a separate dining room so the kitchen is purely for preparation and cooking. However, with no separate utility room the kitchen had to incorporate a washing machine and a built-in boiler of which there are no clues as they have been discreetly hidden away.
