The brief was to create a contemporary-classically styled kitchen to incorporate their kitchen/living space. Functional designed and in keeping with their Herefordshire country living. This was a customer we met at The Grand Designs Live 2017, looking for our guidance and specialist approach to designing their kitchen/living space. This was for a couple who frequently have their sons and relatives to enjoy the dwelling and space they have created.
The challenges in design were experienced around the existing building (oven, FF & hob run) to work around an existing chimney breast and challenging overall allowance to incorporate larder storage, American refrigeration, ovens side-by-side and hob positioning. A secondary challenge to feature an island around a supporting column in the room and coordination the routing of services and appliances. Another design criteria to create a contemporary dresser unit to cater for the customers stylish interior décor tastes and artefacts.
To create a bespoke living space in a working environment such as an extension or new build it is key to work alongside the builder as early as possible to influence design and accuracy. Get out to site; see the space, see the space, get in to the spirit of foundations of the structure!
