The Brief
Being enthusiastic cooks, and keen produce gardeners, the clients’ uncompromising design brief was for a highly functional family kitchen with country style. Increasing storage, whilst making the kitchen feel more open, were also high on the list of priorities. Moving the sink, from in front of the window, solved issues with the cottage walls being so deep that it was previously difficult to open the window. This enabled deep pan drawers to be fitted instead of corner cabinets, with the added advantage of sufficient worktop for them to work alongside each other. The warm, mellow tone of the Cornell Oak, coupled with its elegant style, is very much the epitome of a country kitchen, uniting outstanding craftsmanship with everyday functionality.
Designer's Tips
For a distinctive contrast Nero Angola granite worksurfaces create additional visual impact from the large pearlescent crystals with random bronze coloured flecks. Granite is the ideal material for these clients, who love cooking, as the cold surface is perfect for baking and, in particular, making pastry. The black range cooker and hood co-ordinate beautifully and add to the timeless aesthetic.
