The brief
The client bakes wedding cakes so a practical requirement was for plenty of easy to clean, smooth worksurface but visually the overall feel was for an openplan kitchen-diner with a stunning, designer look. These were both achieved with star galaxy black granite worktops combined with the striking two-tone zebrano and ivory cabinetry. Another practical consideration was the safety of the children when in the kitchen, hence the furniture has softly rounded profiles to avoid any harsh edges
Project Cost: £20k and over

Designer's tips
In a cook’s kitchen there’s no excuse for the decorative touches taking second place. Through clever use of lighting the space can go from functional to atmospheric at the flick of a switch. Task lighting is used to illuminate the worksurfaces with hidden lights in the island creating a warm, welcoming ambience. The handy pop-up power socket means it’s always easy to plug in the mixer or other small appliances when preparing a meal or baking.
