How to .....light the kitchen. It's extremely important to plan your kitchen lighting and not add it in as an afterthought. Graeme Smith, conceptual designer at Second Nature gave lots of very useful advice to readers of April's KBB magazine. He recommended to consider each zone in the kitchen and identify the best type of lighting for each area - directional and functional or perhaps dimmable to create a relaxed atmosphere. Lighting can change the look and function of the room at the touch of a button from preparation and utility to pure chill-out zone. He also suggested to take care choosing surfaces and worktops as bouncing light off reflective surfaces, such as granite or high gloss finishes, is an effective way of increasing the light in a kitchen and can look spectacular.
